AFP at 86: PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

The Contest The official name of the contest is “AFP@86” Photography Contest. It is designed to support the transformation programs of the AFP and its Major Services in line with the AFP’s 86th anniversary celebration on 21 December 2021.
Theme The Contest shall revolve around the theme: AFP @ 86: KALASAG ng Pilipino, “Kaagapay ng Mamamayan, Lalaban para sa Kapayapaan, Sagisag ng Kadakilaan.” It is a branding phrase designed especially for the AFP’s 86th anniversary celebration. From the context of moving forward for the AFP’s transformation programs, to being a reliable partner for change in protecting the Filipino people from all forms of threat and a strong ally in promoting national development as it secures the country’s territory. Objectives The Photo Contest is a project designed to highlight the AFP’s efforts in support to the Command’s aspiration for a better organization. Specifically, it shows in visuals the AFP’s efforts in fulfilling its constitutional mandate as protector of the people and the state, and the integrity of the national territory, showcase its modernization efforts and transformation programs, and generally promote its image for popular support. Who may join: Open to all interested Filipino photographers regardless of age or gender, professional (working for any local or international media outfit) or amateur, civilian or military.

“AFP@86” PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES 1. Criteria for Judging a. Entries shall be judged based on the following criteria:
50% - Technical Merit Relevance: Does the photo capture the essence of the theme? Quality: Is there proper exposure, depth of field, color and/or tonal rendition, contrast, and lighting? 40% - Artistic Merit Creativity: Did the photographer “went out of his way” to capture the moment? Composition: Are the design elements and principles appropriately balanced?
10% - Overall Impact The “wow factor” and or the judge’s general impression on the entry. b. The participants’ identities shall be withheld throughout the judging process. Thus, any identifying marks (e.g., names, address, logo or any sign like watermarks, signature, or copyright notices) that will give any information about the owner of the entry shall not appear in any of the photo entries. c. Winners will be notified by email and by SMS. The official list of winners shall likewise be posted on the Social Media platforms of CRSAFP as the Organizer. d. Participants must send their entries to the IDG, CRSAFP official email (magcrsafp2@gmail.com) for consolidation. These qualifying entries will be deliberated on by the board of judges. e. Decisions are final and binding. f. The awarding ceremony is to be announced by the organizer. 2. Photograph Requirements a. Photos should have been taken between Jan. 1, 2020 to December 1, 2021. b. Each participant may submit a maximum of 4 entries he/ she wishes to join.
c. Entries must be unpublished original works that have not won or entered any international or local competitions in the three years preceding the date of competition. e. Entries must be in digital format, JPEG or JPG, minimum of 300dpi. f. Minor burning (i.e., to darken highlights), dodging (i.e., to brighten shadows) and/or color correction (e.g., color saturation) is acceptable. g. Severe alteration (e.g., use of alteration “filters”, solarization, messotint, duotone, etc.) is not acceptable. h. High dynamic range (HDR), black and white (B&W), and stitched panorama photos are not eligible. i. Entries must not contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content. 3. Submission of Entries a. Entries can be submitted in CD or DVD form, placed in a sealed brown envelope or it can be sent via email zip folder labelled “AFP@86 Photography Contest_ CATEGORY”. Each entry shall be properly identified as “Photo 1, (Category)” or “Photo 2 (Category)” and so on in its file name. c. Each entry shall be accompanied by a short title and the following information: name of photographer, short description of activity, and place of full captions
totaling 30 word-count (maximum) are highly encouraged. Regardless, this information will have to be encoded in the properties/details of the photos.

Rights
a. By joining the Contest, all participants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, nonexclusive right to the Organizers and Sponsors, to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of the entries (along with the appropriate photo credit) in connection with the Contest and promotion of the Contest, in any media now or hereafter known, including, but not limited to: display at a potential exhibition of winners; publication of a book or magazine featuring select entries in the Contest; and publication online highlighting entries or winners of the Contest.
b. Neither the Organizers nor the Sponsors shall be required to pay any additional compensation or seek any additional approval in connection with such use.
c. The Organizers and Sponsors reserve the right to verify the validity and originality of any entry and/or participant (including a participant's identity and address) and to disqualify any participant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Official Contest Rules or who tampers with the entry process.
d. Failure by the Organizers or Sponsor to enforce any of their rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
