CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – For the first time following his successful rescue from the Maute-ISIS Terrorist Group in Marawi City, Father Chito Suganob celebrated a eucharistic mass in an undisclosed place inside Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Sunday, 24 September 2017.
About 40 military personnel attended the mass which Father Chito considered a celebration of life after he was saved by government forces from the battle-stricken city. It also served as a thanksgiving for the lives of all the civilians rescued from the hands of their captors in Marawi.
Father Chito who had been held hostage by the Maute-ISIS terrorist for almost four months also took the opportunity to pray for the soldiers who are still fighting and risking their lives to fully liberate Marawi City. He also hoped that he will be able to hear mass again at the St. Mary’s Cathedral in Marawi City once the firefight is over.
“Like Father Suganob, the leadership of the Armed Forces of the Philippines also pray for the total liberation of Marawi City so that the people may be able to return to their normal lives once again,” Colonel Edgard A Arevalo, AFP Public Affairs Chief said.
“The military is doing its best in its final phase against the Maute-ISIS terrorists in order to completely put a stop to their rebellion and transition to the rehabilitation, reconstruction and rebuilding of the city,” Colonel Arevalo added.
