A two-day Indigenous Peoples (IP) Leaders Summit is slated to be held in Davao City on January 31 to February 1, 2018, to discuss and resolve issues confronting the IP.
The IP Leaders Summit, which aims to "provide the IPs with an avenue to air their concerns with National Government Agencies (NGAs), is expected to draw an estimated one thousand IP/Lumad leaders from all over eastern Mindanao.
During the first day at Green Heights Convention Center in Buhangin, Davao City, the Tribal Leaders will be discussing issues in the different communities prior to their meeting with the representatives of NGAs on February 1, 2018, at Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan Davao City.
President Rodrigo Duterte is also expected to talk to them during the summit's culmination in the afternoon of February 1 in the same venue.
The forthcoming IP Leaders Summit would be the first in the country under the Duterte administration to be conducted. Likewise, it would also be the first time Pres. Duterte will meet with the Lumad leaders of Eastern Mindanao in a group. And it would be the first time in the Republic's history that a sitting President comes to directly meet and talk with a multitude of Lumad leaders.
