Philippine Army Participates KANNAWIDAN Ylocos Festival

SANTA CRUZ, Ilocos Sur- Philippine Army participated in the KANNAWIDAN Ylocos Festival Grand Float Parade in Vigan City on February 2, 2018.


Philippine Army was represented by the 7th Infantry Division Marching Band and 81st Infantry (SPARTAN) Battalion in the Grand Float Parade of the KANNAWIDAN Ylocos Festival.


KANNAWIDAN Ylocos Festival is an annual celebration of Ilocos Sur to showcase its rich culture and heritage.


The two-week long activity started last January 29, 2018 where SPARTAN Troopers participated in the Concelebrated Mass followed by the procession of the different town saints in Ilocos Sur. Spartan Battalion have also deployed troops and K9 units to strengthen security at the festive area.


Major General Felimon T Santos Jr AFP, Commander, 7th Infantry “Kaugnay” Division, said, “We are one with the Ylocos people in celebrating this KANNAWIDAN Festival. May this activity bring more friendship among people in and out of Ilocos Sur.”


“It is our privilege to be a part of the KANNAWIDAN Festival. It is a venue where we can also promote talents of our soldiers.” said BGen Henry A. Robinson Jr. AFP, Commander, 702ndInfantry (Defender) Brigade.


While Lt Col Charles DZ Castillo INF (GSC) PA, Battalion Commander of 81st Infantry Battalion said, “Your Army will help the celebration be more meaningful through keeping the festive area safe and secure. We are on alert 24/7 all throughout the festival and even after it.”
