March 2, 2018

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is enjoining all members of the security sector to be one with the nation in celebrating the National Women’s Month anchored on the theme “We Make Change Work for Women”, starting Thursday, 01 March 2018.

The celebration will serve as an opportunity to salute and recognize the strong and gallant female soldiers, as well as the dedicated and hardworking female civilian employees of the AFP.

This year’s celebration also marks the AFP’s continuous commitment to the shared goal of fighting the forces that trigger domestic violence against women and children. Our code of conduct compels us to continuously adhere to the highest standards of conduct and interaction as public servants.

The AFP will sustain Gender and Development programs that put the principle of participatory decision-making, empowerment, and respect for human rights to work, for the overall effectiveness of the organization. We will also continue to strengthen the role and capacity of women as an equally important part in the attainment of our goals as a world-class armed forces.

As protector of the people and the state, the AFP is an active advocate and partner of the civilian leadership in the campaign for women’s rights and protection in the country. We will always keep in mind and take into heart that women empowerment and gender equality entail harmonious professional relationship among members of the military and stakeholders, towards a gender-responsive AFP.

We call on the men and women of the AFP, military and non-military, to continue to be a catalyst of gender equality and women empowerment. Let us continue to promote an environment where people enjoy the same opportunities without the fear of being discriminated for who and what they are.

The AFP will remain an active supporter of government agencies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders in the worthwhile effort of raising awareness on, and the promotion of equal rights. We encourage every member of the AFP to honor women who are instrumental in molding who we are, helping us, sacrificing for us; mother, wife, sister, teacher, co-worker or a friend. Let us make every month a National Women’s Month.
