Navy conducts MEDEVAC to seafarer

Headquarters, Naval Forces West, Puerto Princesa City – On April 8, 2018, the Naval Forces West (NFW) conducted Medical Air Evacuation (MEDEVAC) to one of the crew member of MV Evangelia, a cargo ship traversing at Sulu Sea, 95NM East of Puerto Princesa City (PPC).


Upon receiving the call at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon from the Philippine Coastguard (PCG)-Palawan, the NFW were informed that MV Evangelia Skipper, Captain Ernesto Abuan, requested for an immediate medical treatment to one of his crew named Mr Tambo Santos Jr who suffered face burn caused by the explosion of one of their air-conditioning unit. NFW immediately dispatched the Naval Aviation Unit West (NAU-W) personnel together with Western Command (WESCOM) medical personnel aboard one of its AW109 Helicopter, the NH432 to conduct MEDEVAC mission. 


At around 5:30 pm of the same day, the team successfully landed at the said cargo ship, promptly conducted medical assessment of the physical condition of Mr Santos, and airlifted him to PPC. The victim, together with the Medical team, arrived at Philippine Air Force Hangar, Puerto Princesa City at around 6 pm and he was brought to Camp General Artemio Ricarte Station Hospital (CGARSH) for further medical treatment. 


This incident shows NAVFORWEST’s continuing commitment to protect the lives and safety of seafarers and other stakeholders within its AOR while it continues to secure the Country’s Western Frontier.
