MOA between AFP and UERM to benefit soldier-amputees

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City — The University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Inc. (UERMMMCI), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Health Service Command (AFPHSC) recently formalized a partnership through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) that will benefit 17 AFPHSC amputee patients. 


Mr. Wilson Young, Vice Chairman of the Board of the UERMMMCI, and AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., on behalf of the AFPHSC, signed the MOA in simple ceremony on 19 June 2018 at the Second Floor Conference Room of the UERM Administration Building, Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City.


The MOA primarily stipulates that the UERMMMCI will provide free assessment, fabrication, and rehabilitation services to the 17 amputee soldiers confined at the AFPHSC medical facilities, while the AFPHSC will supply the components and materials needed for the assembly of prosthetic devices.


After the MOA signing, Gen. Galvez and his staff went on a guided tour around the modern facilities of the UERMMMCI Philippine School of Prosthetics and Orthotics. 


During the MOA signing ceremony, Gen. Galvez was accompanied by AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel MGen. Arnel Duco, AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics BGen. Pio Diño III, AFPHSC Commander BGen. Edwin Leo Torrelavega, AFP Judge Advocate General BGen. Ser-Me Ayuyao, and AFP Surgeon General Col. Augustus De Villa.
