New living quarters for soldiers in the works

CAMP GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City—A ground-breaking ceremony was held at the Peacekeeping Operations Center, here, Tuesday, 24 July 2018 to signal the start of the construction of two 5-storey Multi-purpose Building (Living Quarters) for Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Enlisted Personnel.

 

The AFP Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr. welcomed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar as the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the ceremony.

 

“We would like to express our deepest appreciation to the DPWH. With this, the Armed Forces of the Philippines reaffirms our commitment to continue serving the nation and our people,” Gen. Galvez said.

 

“Further, we vow to sustain our efforts to weed out corruption within our organization. We will set measures to ensure transparency and accountability in our processes,” Gen. Galvez added.

 

This project will serve as a decent living quarters for AFP Enlisted Personnel inside Camp Aguinaldo.

 

This comprises of two (2) symmetrical buildings which will have 88 units each (176 in total), complete with parking area at the ground floor. Each unit will have a floor area of 35 square meters. The DPWH has allocated P250 Million for this building.

 

The infrastructure was initiated by the DPWH under the BUILD BUILD BUILD program that aims to provide a solid backbone for growth and development.

 

Sec. Delfin Lorenzana of Department of National Defense, Sec. Carlos Dominguez III of Department of Finance, Sec. Benjamin Diokno of Department of Budget and Management, Sec. Arthur Tugade of Department of Transportation, Dir. Gen. Ernesto Pernia of the National Economic Development Authority, and President and CEO Vivencio Dizon of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, joined AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Galvez, and DPWH Sec. Mark Villar in signing the Conceptual Plan of the project during the ceremony.

 

“This is our way to thank our soldiers for their sacrifices. And this will be a template for many more infrastructure projects to come. We will not stop until all our soldiers have comfortable and spacious living quarters,” DPWH Sec. Villar said in his speech.

“We will do our best to fulfill this duty and give our full support to our soldiers who sacrificed so much for our country. We can assure you that your sacrifices will not be in vain,” he added.
