BASILAN STRAIT, ZAMBOANGA - As part of the naval tradition, BRP RAMON ALCARAZ (FF16), skippered by Captain Glenn Z Dizon PN(GSC), rendered passing honors to the
Philippine Navy (PN) headquarters in the Western Mindanao (NFWM) as the ship passed by here today at the vicinity of Sta Cruz Island enroute to Darwin, Australia.
Three (3) PN vessels conducted meeting procedure and rendered salute to FF16. These included a Multi-Purpose At yards close to the vessel, followed by BRP DIOSCORO PAPA (PC381) at vicinity Malanipa Island, and lastly BRP MARIANO ALVAREZ (PS38) at vicinity Matanal Pt., Basilan.
Meanwhile, PN contingent for the Exer Tabuada PN(MNSA) aboard ship manned the rail as it returned the honors given.
Passing honors is a naval tradition rendered by ships and boats when vessels, embarked officials, or embarked officers pass. Usually the senior ship. Same as with the Manning the Rail which is also a method of saluting or rendering honors used by naval vessels.
The activity aimed to ensure the Command that BRP RAMON ALCARAZ is in good
condition and ready for its overseas deployment as part of the PN contingent for
Exercise KAKADU 2018 scheduled from August 31 to September 15, 2018 in Darwin,
Australia and will be hosted by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
This exercise conveys the Philippine Navy’s cooperation with the Asia Pacific region. It will provide the PN an opportunity to participate in multinational maritime activities ranging from constabulary operations to high-end maritime warfare in a combined environment.
