Civilian hurt in NPA ambush in Iloilo town

IGBARAS, ILOILO – NPA shoot employees of Century Peak Energy Corporation (CPEC) at Brgy Igcabugao, Igbaras, Iloilo at around 3:30 O’clock in the afternoon August 29, 2018 (Wednesday).

The said employees were on their way back to their office on board a civilian pick-up vehicle after they conducted site survey and inspection when NPA terrorists shot them that resulted in a gunshot wound on the lower right leg of Miss Shela Mae Estevez, 28 years old, Safety Officer of CPEC while the other four employees were unharmed.

Immediately, elements of Bravo Coy, 61IB and CAFGU, Lomboy, Patrol Base, 12IB who were in the vicinity responded and encountered more or less ten (10) NPA terrorists under Southern Front, Komiteng Rehiyon Panay, in a ten (10) minute fire fight that resulted in negative casualty on the government side and undetermined on the NPA side who withdrew towards the forested portion of said barangay.

The victim was brought to Guimbal District Hospital for treatment and the troops conducted pursuit operations against the perpetrators.

Colonel Benedict Arevalo, Commander, 301st Infantry Brigade urge the Human Rights groups and advocates to condemn said NPA violent act which is a clear violation of human rights of civilians and Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CAHRIHL).
