FORT MAGSAYSAY, NUEVA ECIJA – The 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army prepares for Typhoon Ompong that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility yesterday.
7ID covers Central Luzon and portion of Northern Luzon which are expected to be hit by the said typhoon.
Typhoon Ompong, with an international name “Mangkhut” is expected to have its landfall in Cagayan Province. It might intensify into a super typhoon and may reach its maximum sustained wind at 210 to 220 kph.
As the people and Local Government Units (LGUs) prepare for Ompong, 7ID and its units are also preparing for the typhoon and its aftereffects. 7ID and its battalions have Disaster Rescue Operations (DRO) Teams that are ready to be deployed anytime. There are Liaison Officers who have been coordinating with the Office of the Civil Defense Regions I and III prior to the entry of Typhoon Ompong.
The typhoon has 900-kilometer radius that will bring intense to torrential rains that will affect great part of Luzon and will likely result to flashfloods and landslides.
Major General Felimon T Santos Jr. AFP, Commander, 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division said that 7ID is always ready to conduct Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response Operations and respond to the needs of the people.
