CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr celebrated with the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) on their 68th Birthday Celebration on Wednesday, 08 November 2018 at the Marine Headquarters, Bonifacio Naval Station, Taguig City.
General Galvez and party were welcomed and briefed by Major General Alvin Parreño, Commandant, PMC.
Maj Gen Parreño conferred AFP Chief General Galvez, PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde, Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command Rear Adm Robert Empedrad, and other visitors, key military leaders with Honorary Marine badge.
“Today is a unique holiday for warriors. Throughout the world, we celebrate the birth of the Marine Corps – one of the most loyal, most feared, most revered, and most professional fighting force the world has ever known,” Gen Galvez said in his remarks.
Remembering the Fallen Marines
“Truly, the Philippine Marine Corps has done and been doing so much in carrying out our Internal Security Operations forward, particularly in defeating the enemies of our Republic and projecting a trustworthy image of the military institution.,” Gen Galvez said.
The Chief of Staff also said that as the AFP intensifies its offensives in pursuit of terrorists and lawless elements, “we are very keen on our intent to once and for all defeat these enemies of the State and end their senseless violence that claimed the lives of many Filipinos; some of them are our comrades-in-arms who offered the ultimate sacrifice,” he said.
During last year’s anniversary of the Philippine Marine Corps, the crowd fell silent as they commemorate the 35 fallen marines, their colleagues, heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the liberation of Marawi City.
“We will never allow their heroism to be put in vain. We may have been disheartened by our loss, but we emerge as stronger and more inspired soldiers because of their greatness,” Gen Galvez added.
The Philippine Marines and the Chief of Staff also gave medals, plaques of appreciation, awards and commendation to outstanding military personnel, civilian employee, and other honorees during the ceremony.
“I congratulate the Philippine Marine Corps on your 68th Birthday. Congratulations also to the units, officers, men and women who were recognized and awarded this afternoon. May you continue to work way above expectations and may your perseverance inspire others to do more and be more as well,” Gen Galvez said.
“The AFP will fully support the Philippine Marine Corps as you continue to realize your aspiration to modernize in order to achieve your vision of becoming one of the AFP’s premier forces in readiness and the nation’s force of choice,” Gen Galvez concluded.
