Brief Description:
Through the years, the role of the military has expanded from conventional military operations to peace and development works that have benefited communities nationwide and resulted to the cessation of hostilities and conflicts.
To honor and recognize their work, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, through the Public Affairs Office and in line with the AFP’s 83rd anniversary celebration on 21 December 2018, will conduct a photo contest which seeks to highlight the contributions of the military in promoting unity among Filipinos.
Photos are expected to feature the Filipino soldier at work, whether in development or combat operations, to help the government end discord and establish lasting peace in the country.
Categories:
Military: All Active Duty Military personnel
Other Eligible Participants: Dependents, Retirees, Reservists, and Civilians
Contest Rules:
Each participant may submit up to five (5) photos only.
Only one (1) winning entry per participant only.
Photos must be taken in the year 2018.
Photos must not have any markings including date stamps or watermarks.
Photos must include an explanatory text of not more than 100 words.
Photos must be of high resolution of 100 to 300 dpi of 1 MB to 10 MB.
Photos must be original, unpublished, and unused in other contests.
Photos must not be staged, reenacted, or deliberately arranged to portray a scene.
Photos must be unedited (no adding, rearranging, reversing, distorting, or removing of elements).
All photos may be taken using professional, point-and-shoot, mobile, or action cameras.
All entries must be submitted through e-mail in compressed .zip or .rar files containing the photos, its corresponding explanatory texts, a 100-word biography sketch of the participant with their contact details, and valid government-issued identification cards.
The AFP will reserve publishing rights on all winning entries
Judging and Criteria:
Entries from the two (2) categories will be judged separately.
Entries shall be subjected to three stages of judging: a preliminary screening to enforce technical requirements; pre-judging to select the twenty (20) finalists per category; and a final judging to select the top three winners and the Photo of the Year.
Twenty finalists will be selected per category, from which three winners (per category) will be chosen and ranked.
A Photo of the Year shall be the entry with the most points in BOTH categories.
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of five (5) senior military officers, professional photographers, and guest stakeholders.
Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
30 pts - Technical
25 pts - Composition
25 pts - Content/Adherence to the theme
20 pts - Originality
Awards and prizes:
Best Photo – Entry with the most points from across all categories.
P50,000 cash
Trophy; and
Certificate
Category Winners – Three from each category.
First Place -Php 30,000 + trophy and certificate;
Second Place -Php 15,000 + trophy and certificate; and
Third Place -Php 5,000 + trophy and certificate.
Finalists – Twenty from each category
Cash Price – Php 2,000.00
