Over one hundred CPP-NPA terrorists (CNTs) surrender in the province of Masbate in Bicol Region on Monday, November 26, 2018.
Sixty-four (64) of the rebels were from the municipality of Claveria, while 43 were from the Municipality of Aroroy. Five (5) are active regular members of the NPA, while 102 are all active members of Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL) and Militia ng Bayan (MB). Firearms surrendered include two (2) calibre .45 pistols and seventeen (17) calibre .38 revolvers.
Out of the 107 rebels who surrendered, 24 are females. Incidentally, this coincides with the government’s campaign to end violence against women who, in this case, have been illegally recruited too become terrorists and have been exposed in an environment of violence and fear. This campaign runs from November 25, the International Day to End VAW, to December 12, the date that commenced the campaign for the adoption of a UN protocol to prevent trafficking in women and children.
“This successful accomplishment is the result of hard work and cooperation of the AFP and PNP units in the area, and the residents as well who only want peace and development in their communities,” said Lieutenant General Danilo G Pamonag, Commander of Southern Luzon Command. “This is especially good news to the families of the former rebels, who can spend Christmas with their loved ones this year.”
This feat comes in the heels of the 109 former rebels who were granted financial aid through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) on October 9, 2018.
