CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – General Benjamin R Madrigal Jr, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff receives the symbolic P4 Million-check donation from the AFP Cavaliers Basketball Team with Team Manager Maj Gen Erickson R Gloria during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, 18 March 2019 at the General Headquarters Canopy, here.
The Chief of Staff then hands it over to Vice Admiral Gaudencio C Collado Jr, Chairman of the AFP Educational Benefit System Office (AFPEBSO) Board of Trustees and Col Antonio B Dulnuan Jr, the Chief/General Manager of the AFPEBSO.
AFPEBSO is the primary beneficiary of the AFP Cavaliers. It currently caters to 3,607 scholars nationwide – 2,507 of them are dependents of soldiers who were killed-in-action.
The AFP Cavaliers won the prize money when they emerged as Champion in the recently concluded UNTV Cup Season 7 Basketball League held last 11 March 2019 at the Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City.
"We celebrate excellence and generosity through the four million peso-donation of the AFP Basketball Team to the AFP Educational Benefit System Office. Congratulations to the team! You have made the whole AFP proud," Gen Madrigal said.
"What makes us even prouder is the AFP Cavaliers' decision to donate this whole amount to the AFPEBSO for the benefit of our student dependents. This may be less or nothing to the magnitude of what our soldiers had to give up, but this act of generosity by our Cavaliers can somehow alleviate the burden of the orphaned families," Gen Madrigal said.
After the hand-over ceremony, the AFP Pension and Gratuity Management Center (PGMC) was conferred with the AFP Transformation Roadmap Institutionalization Pathway (AFPTRIP) Compliant Status, for successfully establishing tools, mechanisms, systems, and processes contributing to the execution of their respective performance scorecards.
