CAMP LAPULAPU, Cebu City – Central Command, Armed Forces of the Philippines congratulates the gallant police force of Victoria for successfully defending their municipal station in Victoria, Northern Samar against more or less 40 Communist NPA terrorists (CNTs) that attacked at around 3:44 am today. The foiled attack resulted to the death of three (3) CNTs, capture of one (1) other, and recovery of (4) high powered firearms (1-M60 machine gun, 2-M16 assault rifles, and 1-M14 sniper rifle).
“It is with pride and honor to congratulate the brave police force of Victoria who managed to repel the attacking NPA terrorists. This is a major setback to the whole NPA organization, and it came a day before their anniversary where they usually boast of their atrocities. I also commend the two wounded policemen that despite their condition, they still fought alongside their comrades and managed to inflict casualties on the enemy.” Said LtGen Noel S Clement, Commander, CENTCOM, AFP.
During the attack, four (4) innocent civilians onboard a Toyota Vios were also wounded when they happened to pass-by the NPA blocking unit along Brgy Libertad road of the same municipality. According to the victims, the Communist NPA terrorists indiscriminately open fired at them, when they failed to stop at the terrorists’ checkpoint. This resulted to the wounding of Mr Mariquel Sanchez, 52-year-old, wounded in the right lower back; Samel Eluster, 52-year-old, driver, wounded in right leg; Shai Sanchez, 17-year-old, wounded in the right lower back; and Welta Tejero, 74-year-old, wounded in the upper right back shoulder. Eluster managed to continue driving their vehicle to a nearby hospital, and are now on stable condition.
“This is another clear and undeniable proof of the CNTs’ total disregard to the International Humanitarian Law. The attack against the civilians manifest their numerous offenses and crimes committed that are strong basis for nations such as the European Union and the United States of America to declare them as a terrorist organization. We assure everyone that we will not stop in our effort to catch up with these criminals. The captured terrorist will be facing criminal charges, including the leader of their group.” LtGen Clement added.
Pursuit operations are being conducted by the PNP and the troops of the 803rd Infantry Brigade of the 8th Infantry Division as of this report.
