Troops Clash Twice against NPAs in Mindoro, Overrun Encampment

Camp Capinpin, TANAY, RIZAL- Combined troops of the 4th and 76th Infantry Battalions together with the Mindoro police encountered twice on Sunday, April 28, 2019 against the New Peoples Army (NPA) Communist Terrorists Group (CTG) overrunning the terrorists' encampment in Sitio Masay, Barangay Monteclaro, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

Colonel Marceliano V Teofilo, Commander of the 203rd Infantry Brigade who has operational jurisdiction over Mindoro said “many NPAs have died and were wounded after the firefight due to the heavy blood stains seen in the encounter site. Our troops saw the NPAs dragging their casualties.

The combat operations we are conducting against these terrorists are relentless. We really want to protect the people from their atrocities especially now that the NPAs resorted to kidnappings due to their frustrations. The people here in Mindoro, especially the Mangyan tribes already denounces their support to the terrorists group. Day by day, they are losing fighters and members, and they are losing support from the masses. So we will not let up on this, Col Teofilo added.

Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Arbolado, Battalion Commander of the 4IB said the first encountered transpired around 10 a.m when troops acted the report of a concerned citizen that more or less 10 NPAs of Platoon Mike, Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Silangan were extorting money and food from the populace in the area. The firefight erupted for 15 minutes leaving bloodstains on enemy positions. No one was hurt on the government side.

The blocking troops pursue the retreating enemies and they were cornered at Sitio Ilaya wherein another 15 minutes gunfight erupted at about 1350 in the afternoon. When they assaulted the enemy position they discovered it was already a NPA encampment, LtCol Arbolado added.

In a report reaching this headquarters, the troops recovered the following enemy war materials in the overran camp; one (1) transistor radio, one (1) brand new amplifier, three (3) keypad cellular phones, huge round pots, two (2) pieces water container, kitchen utensils, three (3) pairs rainboots, one (1) manual sewing machine, subversive documents with high intelligence value, and various paraphernalia for making tents and bandoleers.

Police Colonel Josepth Bayan, Police Provincial Director of Occidental Mindoro said they already deployed additional police forces in the area to conduct checkpoints to apprehend the fleeing NPAs and give medical aid to their wounded as well.

It can be recalled that the CPP-NPAs committed series of civilian killings, kidnappings, and tortures in Mindoro recently. They were responsible for the killing of Mr Kenendy Aquino and Jun-jun Ysog last February 26 and March 4, respectively; they also killed Mr Jose Barera, a Hanunuo tribe leader in Barangay Naibuan, San Jose last April 12; and they were also the primary suspect on the forced disappearance of Mr Pepito Pamis.

Furthermore, the NPA terrorists were also the perpetrators on the burning of construction equipment owned by the Sta Clara Hydro-electric Company in Naujan. They also harassed and burned the campaign materials of re-electionist Congresswoman Josephine Sato in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

Col Teofilo and Police Brigadier General Thomas Apolinario, Police Regional Director of MIMAROPA lauded the operating troops for exerting their best effort in protecting the people of San Jose. They also encouraged the troops to never get tired in helping and serving the Mindoreños.

The two commanders also called the attention of the different human right groups especially the NUPL and KARAPATAN, asking them to provide assistance to the victims of the NPAs. They should condemn the atrocities committed by the terrorists group. They should show the family of the NPA victims that they are really human right defenders”, they added.

Currently, the government troops are still in the area conducting pursuit operations.
