The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff General Benjamin R Madrigal, Jr. dedicated his "Ulirang Ama" award to all fathers in the country's military which he received during Father’s Day celebration on June 16.
This is only fitting as most of these men are away from their families and risking their lives for the peace and security of the country, he said in a statement.
The Ulirang Ina Ama Awards Foundation Inc. is a non-profit, non-stock family organization that focuses on many projects. Two of which—the Ulirang Ina Awards and the Ulirang Ama Awards—are famous for being celebrated every year, in conjunction with the international celebrations of Mother’s and Father’s Day, respectively.
The foundation aims to promote the values and traditions of Filipinos by paying tribute to model mothers and fathers through the Ulirang Ina/Ama Awards and inculcate in every citizen the value of showing respect to the elderly.
Meanwhile, Madrigal mentioned that as he consider himself as a father of the men and women of the AFP, he swear to look into their morale and welfare.
“As I consider myself a father to the men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It is my solemn duty to look after the morale and welfare to ensure that they perform their mandate to the nation just like a good son and daughter to their parents,” Madrigal said.
But even more deserving of the above-mentioned award are the troopers who gave their lives in defense of the country and their fellow Filipinos.
"Even more deserving of this award are those who have given their lives for love of country and people. I swear that I will take care of your families and that your sacrifice will not be in vain," the AFP chief stressed.
"Nais ko pong pasalamatan ang Ulirang Ina, Ama Awards Foundation sa inyong natatanging programang ito at ganoon na rin po sa pagkapili sa akin na mabigyan ng pagkilla para sa Ulirang Ama Award," the AFP chief concluded. -30-
