91IB supports poverty reduction initiative of Aurora Province

Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – The 91st Infantry (SINAGTALA) Battalion showed its support to Aurora Province during the  1st Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) meeting held at Costa Pacifica, Barangay Sabang, Baler, Aurora on August 20, 2019. 


The PRLEC Meeting included a signing of a Pledge of Commitment to ensure the active participation of all local government and non-government agencies involved.


Lieutenant Colonel Jose Mari F. Torrenueva II, Commanding Officer, 91IB, together with the representatives of the Provincial Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Education, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Labor & Employment, Philippine National Police, Department of Public Works and Highways, local government units of Aurora, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and the Land Bank of the Philippines participated in Aurora’s 1st PRLEC Meeting.


The meeting was facilitated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), headed by its Provincial Director, Melanie Grace T. Romero, who is also the Chairwoman of the PRLEC. A


Governor Gerardo A. Noveras of Aurora also showed his support to the event by participating in the 1st PRLEC Meeting.


The activity is in line with Executive Order No. 70 which institutionalizes the whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace.  It aims to address the root causes of insurgency by prioritizing and harmonizing the delivery of basic and social services of the government. It also intends to generate inputs, recommendations and strategies that will respond to the needs of the constituents at the provincial level.


Conflict affected areas and geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas are the priority in the delivery of the government programs. Further, vulnerable sectors such as the youth, IPs and former rebels are also considered and included in the program.


After the activity, the participants signed the Pledge of Commitment to the PRLEC Cluster.


Major General Lenard T. Agustin, Commander of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division where the 91IB is under, has these to say about the activity, “It inspires me to see our troops working with the local government units and agencies of Aurora to address poverty in the province, in line with E.O. 70.  Aside from this, the Province of Aurora has already declared the CPP-NPA-NDF as ‘persona non grata’. Aurora has truly taken to heart the ‘whole-of-nation’ approach, and with their vigilance and determination, I know all their plans will succeed, as the Philippine Army, especially the 7ID, will always support and keep them safe.”


Relatedly, Lieutenant Colonel Torrenueva II was very grateful to the Chairwoman of the PRLEC cluster and the cluster government agency members for the support and commitment accorded to EO.70. He is very positive that peace and security in the province of Aurora will continue to flourish, and progress and development will be sustained.
