Chief, PNP gives award to Army personnel

Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija - Two personnel of the 24th Infantry (Wildcat) Battalion, 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army were awarded by Chief, PNP General Oscar Albayalde in recognition to their outstanding dedication and commitment to duty during the 118th Police Service Anniversary held at Camp Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet on September 27, 2019.


The award was in recognition to the two Army personnel’s participation in the rescue operation conducted in a remote area in Barangay Gacab, Malibcong, Abra on August 12, 2019.


According to Sergeant Charles D. Del Rosario and Private First Class Jay-r P. Valaquio of Bravo Company, 24IB, they were then stationed in Kutop Patrol Base in Barangay Gacab,  Mlibcong , Abra, when at around 1o’clock in the morning, they received a call from Licuan-Baay Police Station that a family of five, together with a French national were stranded, lost and in extreme danger during the height of heavy rain and zero visibility in the early morning of August 12 in an area which is around 1.5 kilometer from their patrol Base.


They were informed that the stranded family’s vehicle was stuck in a road canal where strong water current was fast rising. Unmindful of the risks, they immediately proceeded to Barangay Gacab and rescued the distress family, together with the personnel of Balbalan Municipal Police Station who also responded to the scene.


In his message, Police General Albayalde was all praises to the effort of the two Army personnel and their PNP counterparts for the job well done in the rescue operation they conducted.


Major General Lenard T. Agustin AFP, Commander of the 7ID was delighted when he heard about the recognition given by the Chief, PNP to the two Army personnel.


“I would like to commend Sergeant Del Rosario, and Private First Class Valaquio for their good deeds, at the same time, I am grateful to Police General Albayalde for the recognition he gave to the two personnel of 24IB.”


 Further he said, “I call on other troops of 7ID to emulate deeds of the two recognized personnel, whose effort averted a disastrous night for the stranded family and their foreigner friend.”


Relatedly, Colonel Audrey L. Pasia, Commander of 702nd Infantry (Defender) Brigade said, “It is not all the time that emergencies, such as the two personnel of 24IB encountered come across our path, but when situation presents itself, let us not think twice, do what is mandated of us as protector of the people, for our job is not only to conduct combat operations, but also to conduct rescue operations under the spirit of humanitarian assistance and disaster response.”
