Army continues facilitating assistance to IP students in Bukidnon

Impasugong, Buk, Jan 30- The 8th Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army continues in facilitating the delivery of assistance to the 198 IP students at Luyungan IP High School, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, 9:00 am, January 29, 2020.

Army troopers of the said unit again delivered and distributed packs of rice, canned goods, and sanitary pads to the IP students. Under the DepEd Order 62, IPEd Partnership Initiative, Luyungan IP High School has been the beneficiary of the Bukidnon Lateral Organized for Development (BUKLOD), a group of business companies operating in Bukidnon province, an NGO wherein some of its members and private individuals committed to help the said school and its students.

Monthly assistance from BUKLOD was finalized and put into a memorandum of agreement on November 2019 after the monthly meeting with the 8th IB army acting as secretariat. It is in this reason, the 8th IB army is the one collecting and transporting these assistances going to the IP school.

Further, it was proposed that the BUKLOD family will help the students to have their own plantations of Abaca, Dragon Fruits, and Adlai grains inside the campus to sustain their food supply in the coming years.

In connection with this, representatives from the 8th IB after distribution of the aid prepared the stuffs to be used in planting the abaca seedlings this coming month of February.

With a thankful heart, Mr. Edsel James Quemado, the school principal of Luyungan IP High School expressed his salute to the army troopers, “the 8th IB army never ceased in helping this campus and they evolved into healthy helping organization, the students remain as strong 198 since they felt the love and support from other people, if aid didn’t come here, some students may have quitted school because almost all of the students came from low-generating income.”

These students came from the seven different tribes in Bukidnon and are living inside the campus since the opening of classes. They get a chance to go home to their families every weekend to get some food supplies and allowances but in many cases, some of them do not return on time for the reason that they don’t have enough food stocks and allowances to survive the following school days.

Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Illana, the commanding officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion and at the same time the head secretariat of BUKLOD saw this situation and realized that intervention from the non-government organization is needed prompting him to tap the BUKLOD organization for possible assistance. “If we do not bring aid to these IP students, the CPP-NPA-NDF organizers may infiltrate them using such issues to recruit more members. We believe that prevention is better than cure so I’m urging all of us to do some actions.”

Thus, Luyungan IP High School, the sole IP High School in SouthEast Asia located at Barangay Bangcud, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon is still open for those who want to extend some aid to allow the 198 IP students pursue their dreams.
